RESEARCH SHOWS THAT BURNING SAGE KILLS 94% OF AIRBORNE BACTERIA! That’s a whole 94%!!!

Burning sage – also known as smudging – is an ancient spiritual ritual. It is believed that burning sage clears out spiritual impurities, pathogens, and even insects has been fundamental to the practice of smudging.

The most-used types of sage have an antimicrobial property, which means they keep infectious bacteria, viruses, and fungi at bay.

Research showed that a smudged room stayed almost ENTIRELY bacteria free for 24hours. Some strains of harmful bacteria could not be detected for up to 30 days.

White sage is both antimicrobial and antibacterial. It has also been shown to repel insects.

In 2007 a study published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacol linked burning sage to reducing airborne bacteria. It stated, “Research has shown that burning herbs or medicinal smoke can purify the air and eliminate up to 94% of harmful bacteria for up to 24hrs.”

It also turns out that sage may help clear the air of lots more than bugs and bacteria. Though scientifically unproven, burning sage is thought to release negative ions which helps neutralize positive ions. Common positive ions are allergens like pet dander, pollution, dust, and mold!
